Grupa istraživača sa univerziteta Cambridge i Oxford, kao i sa Kraljevskog koledža u Londonu, planira da ugradi implante-pejsmejkere u mozak zavisnika od alkohola i droga.

Time bi utvrdili na koji način upotreba električnih impulsa može da pomogne u borbi protiv alkoholizma i narkomanije, objavio je “Guardian”.Ova tehnika se već koristi da pomogne pacijentima u kontroli simptoma Parkinsonove bolesti, depresije i opsesivno-kompulzivnog poremećaja.

Sada grupa istraživača želi da koristi duboku simulaciju mozga kako bi se povećala samokontrola alkoholičara i narkomana i smanjila njihova potreba za pićem i drogom.

Glavni istraživač tog projekta Valerija Vun, sa odsjeka za psihijatriju na Cambridgeu, rekla je da je cilj da se eliminišu devijantni električni ritmovi mozga koji dovode do zavisnosti, kao što je slučaj sa pejsmejkerima srca koji vraćaju rad tog organa u normalu.
